Miata NC Bose USB jack replacement (remix)
thingiverse
I adapted Shinns' design and enhanced the front with an enlarged cutout for USB extension cables, while keeping the rear unchanged. I purchased two Amazon Basics USB Extension cables from here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NH13Q8W/ref=twister_B00SIT9PRO?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 There may be dual usb panel mounts available that fit as well, but I already had spares of these cables from a prior project. These cables work well because they are the perfect size to rub against the left and right side of the housing when inserted. The modification requires adjusting the cables to sit properly. It's not immediately apparent in the photo, but since the USB cables have rounded edges, I smoothed/sanded down one side of each cable and glued them together. This way, the sides facing each other in the housing appear seamless. I also removed the Amazon badges to ensure a proper fit. I then glued the cables and the front plate of the housing together all at once. After using this setup for a couple weeks, everything appears to be holding up fine. Update: Additional photos have been added showing how I modified the USB cables and what it looks like installed. I smoothed out one side of each cable and joined them together with glue. Remember to do the opposite side of each cable so that both remain in the same orientation. Update 2: A faceplate has been designed, which is completely flat and smooth but features small symbols cut out from vinyl, visible in the most recent uploaded photos.
