Miata Ash Tray Cup Holder Adapter
thingiverse
This is a brand-new faceplate designed specifically for the older model Miata's ahstray in NA models, transforming the ashtray into a secure cup holder. It utilizes the factory interface, ensuring it's completely swappable if someone decides to install the car's original parts later on. To install this faceplate, simply pull out the old ash tray and remove the four corner screws holding it in place. Next, screw this new plate securely into position instead. I've also included alternative halves for anyone with a smaller print bed size. While it's possible to print the halves separately and glue or acetone them together, printing as one whole object is highly recommended if possible. Printer Settings: Printer: Da Vinci Pro Rafts: No rafts needed Supports: No supports required Resolution: 0.1mm for a high-quality finish Infill: 5% for added strength Notes: I personally printed one faceplate at 0.3mm and 5% infill, resulting in a decent print, but the edges lacked smoothness due to the higher print height. To improve the finish, I quickly brushed some acetone on top and wiped it clean with a rag. Another faceplate was then printed at 0.1mm with 5% infill, and an additional layer of acetone helped achieve a flawless surface. Material: I've only tested this design in ABS material, so I'm not sure how it would perform with other materials. My printer is set up on a BuildTak bed surface, which has served me well for over 40 prints without any issues or edge curling concerns. As a result, I haven't encountered the need to add brims during printing. Post-printing: A soft brush was used to apply a thin layer of acetone onto the top surface, followed by a quick wipe with a clean rag to smooth out the finish.
