MHD simulation of a star with a hot Jupiter
sketchfab
A simulation of a system consisting of a K-type star and a planet roughly the size of Jupiter reveals a frame from an MHD study. This research utilizes PLUTO code (Mignone et al., 2007) to model interactions between the celestial bodies. Due to their close proximity, atmospheric gas on the planet is rapidly evaporating and creating a tail behind it. Some of this gas is launched towards the star, where it eventually precipitates. The study draws from research by Matsakos et al. (2015) and Pillitteri et al. (2015). References: Mignone et al. The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, Volume 170, Issue 1, pp. 228-242.
