This X-carriage is engineered to make it easy to release your hot ends quickly for maintenance or to switch between 3D printing and laser/engraving without having to remove or reinstall the belt every time. It also minimizes the number of bolts that need to be removed down to just one. Wait, what? Why bolt? Bolt is still the most durable and toughest fastener, combined with simple keys in a few locations to eliminate all play caused by joined parts. And I'm serious - no play whatsoever. You don't have to remove the bolt completely. Just loosen it a few turns and slide out the adapter. You'll need some type of quick connector for this. Choose your favorite on amazon.com. If you have enough spare parts lying around to make up a complete hotend, why not put them to good use? Make it a spare set of hotends, ready to use in case your current one needs servicing. Adapters are currently available for CHIMERA (dual extruder), 33mm laser (www.banggood.com around $70), and E3DV6 Bowden (universal) in my remix section. I mounted it on the carriage because I'm working on a project at work that may need instant modifications for laser. If you want your carriage to look nice and clean, and reduce the weight put on the carriage, then mount the electrical quick connector on the frame.
