MGB Roadster MK1 Toggle Switch Caps
thingiverse
This set of toggle switch caps is designed for the MGB Roadster. I created these custom caps for a 1965 MK1 ('62-'68), but they might also work well on other models. The original plastic caps had deteriorated beyond repair, so I came up with new designs. Even though the switches are available aftermarket, you won't find individual caps like mine. I added some recessed lettering to help identify the switches for their specific functions - wipers, lights, and heater fan. You'll also see a non-lettered version if desired. There are two variants: one with an extra reinforcement ring (with different printing orientation) and one without. I was worried that they might split along a layer when forced onto the switch shaft, but it's hard to say for sure. Feel free to test them out! Note that these caps aren't exactly the same shape as the factory originals. I made them slightly thicker to make them stronger. I printed mine in black ABS and applied superglue to both layers and rings to give them extra strength. To get a glossy finish, I sanded them with 220 grit paper followed by 400, 1000, and 2000 (it really moves fast!) Then I polished them with car polish on a rag. The results look pretty great! The letters were filled in with white model paint. They fit well on the switches, but I had to sand off some rust from the posts to get them all the way on. You can find the 3D model on Tinkercad if you want to modify it. Enjoy driving!
