My MG ZT Tourer takes on a serene beauty amidst February's snowfall in 2021. The storied history of the MG marque dates back to Morris Garages, which "sportified" Morris cars in the vibrant twenties. Over time, it underwent numerous transformations, including its stint within the ill-fated British Leyland and the Rover Group. In the year 2000, MG inherited the engineering prowess of Rover from BMW, thus giving birth to the MG Rover Group. This union lasted for a remarkable five years before succumbing to administration, marking the end of Britain's last domestic mass car manufacturer. The MG Rover Group proudly built several models, including taking over production of Rover's majestic swan song, the 75, which gave rise to the ZT. Despite being a diesel tourer, it exudes a sportier feel than my trusty old petrol 75, and its sleek design is just as captivating. As one of the last units ever built, this MG ZT Tourer holds a special place in British automotive history and on this page. The MG marque has seen a revival in recent years, but under Chinese state-owned SAIC Motor, newer models have lost their charm and connection to its illustrious heritage.
