MG Bonnet Support
thingiverse
This device is designed to safely secure the hood (bonnet) of MG roadsters in place for mechanical work or simply to provide a clear view of the engine. Ideally, two should be produced, one for each side of the hood. It can actually be used as printed without magnets if you place it on the MGTD's tool box and brace one side against the tool boxes latch bracket (see images). I designed a 3/4" diameter by 1/16" deep recess in the bottom of the module that allows a neodymium magnet to be press fitted. The area must be thoroughly cleaned of residual fibers to ensure a proper fit. A light tap with a hammer should suffice. It's essential to verify the polarity of the two magnets and position them within the modules so they will stick together when assembled, preventing loss. They are printed with PLA and won't mar any paint finish. Adding felt to the groove and bottom of the module for extra protection is optional but recommended. However, it's crucial to avoid getting grit or dirt under it before installing. As mentioned earlier, use the toolbox latch bracket to help hold the module in place even when using magnets. Never drive the vehicle or operate the engine with these in place. They may vibrate out of position, causing paint chipping on your hood panels.
