METROSTATIO Spijkenisse Centrum serves as one of three Rotterdam metro stations situated above ground in Spijkenisse. The station's design is a collaborative effort between Architect HWT (C. Weeber) and the Public Works Rotterdam architectural firm led by C. Veerling. The METROSTATIO was opened to passengers on April 25, 1985, offering direct connections to underground stations in Spijkenisse. Today, this station provides transportation for lines C and D passengers. The METROSTATIO is strategically located near the Ruwaard van Putten Hospital, where medical information is occasionally broadcast within metro trains. In recognition of its unique architecture, the METROSTATIO won the National Steel Prize in 1986 under the category A: Buildings with a steel frame construction. Notably, this station's structure bears resemblance to the platform roofs found at Amsterdam Central Station, representing an updated take on traditional design elements. The RET and other service providers have designated this metro station as one location where passengers can access essential information outlets.
