I have a collection of wire and cord on various sized reels that are always cluttering up my workspace. As I try to keep that workspace organized, I came up with this vertical reel holder that can hold them all and even allows for tool-free loading and unloading as long as the bolts are properly tightened. To build this project, you will need two copies of each of the cantilever and collar pieces, four 3/4-inch 8-32 panhead machine screws with nuts, and a half-inch rod cut to some number of inches (12.0 inches, 23.0 inches, 35.0 inches for example-the grooves on the post are one inch apart). Be careful not to over-tighten the screws-there should still be a gap between the pieces and it is acceptable to rotate the arm with a little force after installation. After installing the top and bottom arms, you are ready to insert the rod into the bottom arm and load the reels. The receptacle cups have a healthy draft to allow the rod to tilt over. Rotate the top arm far enough to be able to tilt the rod into the upper receptacle then rotate it back into alignment with the lower arm. Now dispense some wire or cord.
