A gauge for measuring nuts and bolts typically costs about $75. I picked up all the necessary nuts and bolts at my local hardware store for just $7.50. What used to be a plastic bin full of assorted hardware is now neatly organized by size. It's worth noting that the outer dimensions of nut or bolt heads may differ from what your local hardware store typically stocks. The sizes available are 3x0.5, 4x0.7, 5x0.8, 6x1.0, 7x1.0, 8x1.0, 8x1.25, 10x1.0, 10x1.25, 10x1.5, 12x1.25, 12x1.5, and 12x1.75.
