Metal Simple Printrbot Filament Holder (Sturdy)
thingiverse
DESCRIPTION This sturdy filament holder prints best upright without supports when set to 0.2mm layer height with a fill rate of 30%. Bent paperclips and inexpensive metal clasps combine to create a robust, reliable filament management system for the Printrbot Metal Simple. CREATION Print the STL file provided at the default scale (for users with a Printrbot Simple Metal, refer to the screenshot of the prepped build plate to check scaling issues. STL files carry absolute measurements so this should not be a problem; however, if necessary, use the spacing of holes at the bottom of the holder to rescale the print). Shape paperclips according to the example in the gallery using wire cutters and needle-nosed pliers. Heat up the ends of the clips on a stove and push them into the tops of the two vertical arms as shown in the image. Cut 13cm of 1-1/2" PVC pipe or another thin-walled pipe with an outer diameter between 4cm and 5cm. Note that the diameter must fall within this range to allow for clearance through the filament reel and proper elevation off the bottom of the holder. Your setup is complete! Position the holder on vertical rods, using lubricant if needed. Secure the filament by inserting the PVC pipe through it and placing it on the vertical arms, then clamp in place using small metal clamps such as this one (available at most local hardware stores).
