Metal Plus Spool Holder

Metal Plus Spool Holder

I wanted a reliable spool holder for my Printrbot Metal Plus. The current setup has the spool sitting on top of the printer, but I was concerned it might topple over. Taking the 80mm gap at the top into account, I designed a custom spool holder using components from thingiverse to rest atop my printer and fit snugly within the gap, leveraging the bearings instead of relying solely on the metal surface for support. Utilizing 1/4-20 lag bolts as spacers and structural supports, I brought the concept to life. Considering it's just a rough idea, I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out. This design was created using Tinkercad. Instructions Print the two parts of this model in black for a sleek appearance that complements your Printrbot Metal Plus. Next, securely press-fit the 608ZZ roller bearings onto the supporting posts. It's essential to apply gentle pressure while holding the part in a vise for best results. Locate some suitable 1/4" bolts and insert them through the outermost holes on the spool holder assembly. Then, loosely tighten the bolts so that the resulting assembly is just wider than your standard spool width. If you're working with spools of varying sizes, don't hesitate to adjust or swap out bolts as needed. Carefully position the completed spool holder onto your Printrbot Metal Plus, followed by placing a new spool and ensuring it rotates freely within its confines. Once everything looks in order, proceed to print your chosen project and bask in the satisfaction of having implemented this clever design enhancement.
