I'm a 3ds max fan and this is my go-to software for creating high-end 3D models. The current version I use is 2012, which is still a powerful tool in the right hands. When it comes to rendering engines, Vray 3.6 and Corona 1.7 are two of the most popular options out there, each with its own unique strengths. With my go-to combo of 3ds Max + Corona or 3ds Max + Vray, I can easily export my models in OBJ or FBX format for further refinement. In terms of polygon count, my current model is made up of a respectable 178,512 polygons and boasts an impressive 196,888 vertices. As for personal favorites, this particular model is one that really stands out to me, and I'm confident you'll love it just as much once you take a closer look.
