Metal gears front differential
thingiverse
This project brings together 3D-printed parts with precision-cut metal components and bought-in metal parts. I continually broke my internal gears in the differential and my u-joints, so I decided to switch to metal internal gears and metal u-joints. These two are purchased. You don't have to break the bank: http://www.rchobbyestore.co.uk/rc-spares-c1/spare-car-parts-c2/gears-pinions-c49/hsp-02066-diff-pinions-pin-1-10th-scale-rc-parts-p605 For the u-joints, I bought these, 5mm to 5mm shaft diameter: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROCK-CRAWLER-universal-joint-coupling-5mm-to-5mm-rc-model-car-SCX10-etc-G15/181532312679?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 The gears in question are HSP 02066, for future reference. U-joints have 5mm holes for shafts that are roughly 11mm in diameter and a total length of approximately 24mm. Since I own a lathe, I decide to design and manufacture all the shafts from metal. You can try printing the shafts, but I don't know how durable those will be. I think they won't last much, so I'm warning you. EDIT: Finally, I added the metal differential input shaft. With this, the diff plastic parts are reduced to the driveshaft pinion, the ring gear and the housing. Everything else is metal, including the differential pinions and differential side gears. EDIT: There's a 1.5 module differential design with stronger teeths. You can find it here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3465873
