Metal Gear REX

Metal Gear REX

myminifactory

Metal Gear REX was a Metal Gear prototype that was jointly developed by DARPA, ArmsTech, and Livermore National Labs for the United States Army in the early 2000s. This has been a long-held dream project of mine. I first attempted to create Metal Gear Rex back when everyone played it on the PS1 using a copy of 3Dmax R3, a very old software. Now, in my late 20s, I have finally realized this dream. I have made Metal Gear REX. The model is fully articulated and relatively easy to print. It was created using a Starrt 3D printer, which cost $99. I am expecting great things from the community when it comes to showcasing printed versions of this model. Please share your prints with me, as I would love to see them. I recommend printing Metal Gear Rex slightly larger than my original design for added strength and to showcase its detailed features. As I will discuss in a separate print tips section, it is crucial to print the joints first. If you are unable to successfully print these components, you may be forced to settle for a model that cannot stand on its own or one that falls apart easily. The ball and cup joints require a delicate balance: they must be tight enough to support themselves and their attached parts without being so tight that they break the ball off. I will attempt to create a making-of video, but for now, please enjoy Metal Gear Rex and reach out if you encounter any problems. I will do my best to assist you.
