Crafting is the act of utilizing tools to mold something from a substance by eliminating fragments of that substance. This technique can be applied to any substance solid enough to retain its shape even when parts have been removed, and yet pliable enough for segments to be eliminated with available tools at hand. Crafting, as a means of creating sculpture, is distinct from methods employing soft and malleable substances like wax, ice, and molten metal, which may be shaped into the desired forms while still yielding and then solidify into that shape. Crafting tends to demand significantly more effort than methods utilizing pliable materials.
