Meta Knight
thingiverse
This is hopefully a rocking meta knight, designed to move with ease (as discussed below). It also features interchangeable cape or wing attachments using powerful magnets that allow for quick changes between the two. Until I implement additional enhancements, a small drill or heated needle/pin allows me to make precise holes in the relevant areas, enabling the arms and shoulder guards to move smoothly. A bit of clean-up is needed to ensure a flush fit where the magnets are placed. I used 4mm diameter by 1mm deep N42 neodymium magnets with an impressive 0.25kg pull force, which work fine when paired but are slightly weakened by the paint. However, they hold up well and allow for easy assembly, despite the model's tendency to crumble under stress. Here are the specs I submitted to the 3D printing society I'm a part of: Ever since the Metaknight Amiboo figure from Nintendo was released, I've wanted one, but it sold out too quickly and the price skyrocketed beyond its value. So, I decided to create my own. I eventually got around to making it, heavily basing my design on a sculpt from a popular art sharing website called DeviantArt. Designing it in SolidWorks was a rewarding experience, as it's not typically used for this type of project. However, I overcame the challenges and achieved a result worth printing and sharing on Thingiverse. Owning my own 3D printer (which is very out of shape) put me in a mindset where I learned to follow the rules that come with the process, which helped reduce the number of supports required. With this project, it would be difficult to avoid supports entirely, so I used the society's printer instead, as it has made some impressive impressions and provides an easy service (although I'm sure those rafts and warping are a nightmare to handle). Once I received my parts, I drilled into them to make room for additional magnets, which makes assembly easier than building with Legos. This allowed me to check if the parts were even or sat in the right place, enabling me to go back and edit the files accordingly. Finally, it was down to the usual process of sanding, priming, more sanding, and top-layer color painting.
With this file you will be able to print Meta Knight with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on Meta Knight.
