Meta-Ball 3 takes its cue from the futuristic style of anime films. It begins by setting up a new character, Yuu Narumi. A struggling salaryman who's recently gone bankrupt due to his financial irresponsibility. His daily routine becomes more hectic after encountering Meta-Ball, a magical energy entity. The two of them are transported back in time to 2001 AD Japan. Yuu attempts to prevent various apocalyptic disasters that were about to occur during this time period. They get to know individuals who live around them, like Ruri Totsuka, an attractive salaryman who also deals with everyday issues like traffic jams and household chores. Together they go on a mission to thwart disasters such as train derailments, terrorist attacks, and natural catastrophes. However their quest gets harder as each challenge demands they have faith in each other's capabilities while they fight through intense battles that bring destruction and death within them.
