This is the result of an initial attempt to chart the site of a Messerschmitt Bf110 fighter-bomber off Dorset's coast. The model is a "low-grade" rendering from 450 images captured with a 15mm fish-eye lens - processed in Lightroom before Agisoft. Although this may not be the ideal lens for this task, it wasn't the primary focus of the dive, and was only accomplished as time permitted. The wreck lies approximately 21 meters beneath the surface, roughly one mile from shore, situated south of Worbarrow Bay. The plane was downed on October 7th, 1940, after sustaining a direct hit from Spitfires. Upon impact, the pilot deliberately ditched the aircraft in the sea. This is evident in the fact that some structure remains intact to this day - an astonishing 80 years later. Had the crew abandoned ship and left the plane to crash land, it would have disintegrated upon impact. Fortunately for them, both the pilot and radio operator/rear gunner (known as the bordfunker) were rescued by a nearby launch. They spent the remainder of the war in captivity as Prisoners of War. According to their interrogation report, the landing was quite rough - the pilot admitted that he could have safely landed on solid ground instead.
