Mesh to solid #1.Triceratops
grabcad
Updated on June 15, 2016 with the introduction of an initial STL triceratops model, Grasshopper script, and renders. The series focuses on mesh-to-solid transformations (including Voronoi cells and t-pipes) and surface transformations. It serves as a beginner's guide to generative algorithms. A simple algorithm involves placing random points on a surface, where each point becomes the center of a sphere. This method works well with smaller numbers of spheres but faces issues when dealing with over ten thousand spheres (related to Autodesk Inventor 2016). The workflow involves converting an STL file to Rhino using Grasshopper, then exporting it to Inventor as a Step file before rendering in KeyShot. Users are encouraged to attempt combining all spheres into one body.
