I began by meticulously recreating the objects based on the examples provided, then experimented with additional geometry until a visually appealing outcome was achieved. The knife tool was used to truncate the top of the cone, resulting in what appeared to be a flat surface at the apex. However, upon closer inspection, it became evident that this feature was actually a product of scaling the vertices to zero. To my surprise, I had not merged these points as a separate operation, so an assortment of extraneous verts remained in place. In retrospect, I should have merged them during the course, but instead chose to leave them intact. Upon reviewing the uploaded image, I noticed that I had inadvertently neglected to perform this same merge on the top of the sphere/observatory.
