Mesh ball with captive sphere
thingiverse
I created this when I needed a cat toy. It's a polyhedron with a captive sphere inside it, strong enough to withstand being thrown down stairs and light enough to fly through the air. I made it using my 3D printer. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: i3 prusa Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: Print at a layer height of 0.1mm or less for a smooth finish. Infill: The infill percentage determines how heavy the inner ball will be. Notes: I printed mine without supports and wouldn't recommend them. Post-Printing Removing the Ball Carefully slide tweezers or a screwdriver between the inner ball and the outer polyhedron, then gently pry them apart. They should separate easily. How I Designed This I needed a toy for my cats, so I fired up Blender and added a few modifiers to an icosphere. I used the wireframe and subsurface tools to create it.
