Mermaid, a bronze sculpture designed by Danish sculptor Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen, showcases a mermaid in dramatic pose. The original bronze cast from 1921 is displayed at the Danish National Gallery, while another cast was installed outside the Royal Danish Library in Copenhagen in 2009. The plaster model, owned by the Carl Nielsen Museum, is on display at the Funen Art Museum in Odense. Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen preferred depicting domestic animals and people with intense naturalistic portrayal of movements and sentiments, also exploring Nordic mythology themes. As a trend-setter in Danish art for most of her life, she was one of the first women to be taken seriously as a sculptor, married to prominent Danish composer Carl Nielsen.
