Mercury Redstone, 1/200 scale

The Mercury Redstone rocket is depicted in a highly detailed 1/200 scale model, measuring approximately 5 inches in length. This scale model consists of two main parts that can be connected using small pieces of 1.75mm filament as alignment pegs. While numerous space rocket models are available online, I chose to create my own due to the difficulty of finding the right balance between detail and scale when being specific. Some models have high polygon counts resulting in detailed designs best suited for large prints, while others have low polygon counts leading to visible flat faces on cylinders. In addition, many space rocket models lack accurate scale information or fail to adhere to correct dimensions. As part of my personal project, I aim to create a lineup of past and present space rockets in the same 1:200 scale. I opted for this scale as it provides a good balance between detail and size, allowing even the smallest rockets to be visible while preventing larger models like the Saturn V and SLS from becoming overly enormous. My goal is to design simple prints that are easy to sand and paint, with an emphasis on implying intricate details rather than displaying them explicitly. Many of my models are based on previously created pieces for mods in Kerbal Space Program but have been redrawn with different details and polygon counts. These models were initially designed to recreate real-world rockets by matching their actual dimensions using online diagrams and measurements. To achieve a balance between accuracy and simplicity, I omitted or simplified various details while striving to maintain reasonably accurate dimensions and proportions.
