Mercury capsule ST20_simplified
thingiverse
This is the BT60_simplified upscaled to fit my Estes Mercury Redstone (kit #1921). Scottdee did an outstanding job with the models, but he didn't have a simplified version that would fit my kit. Anyone who has ever assembled that model knows the capsule was a real challenge to put together. I wouldn't want it to get damaged after a rough recovery or be impossible to find. The original looks great for display purposes, but I wanted this one for actual flying. If it gets lost or breaks, I won't be too upset about it. The diameter is very close, but it will need a strip of masking tape around the base for a snug fit. Changes: Initially, I just upscaled the BT-60, but with the endcap, it seemed extremely heavy. In this version, there's no endcap; instead, there's a crossbeam on the base, similar to the original Estes kit. It feels much lighter now. Don't mind the subpar paint job; I printed at .15 height, so there was significant bleeding under the painter tape. The pics show a comparison with the kit capsule and this one sitting on top of the rocket for flying purposes.
