This is a reverse lock cam for a 1970's Kiekhaefer Mercury 500, it locks the engine from tilting when you go in reverse. I haven't fully tested it but I designed it to use a metal strap over the cam part like the original. My original locked on both neutral and reverse. The second design moves the splines just a little so it will only lock in reverse. It is possible to adjust the original so it will only lock in reverse but the lock shaft will rest on the cam part instead of the top flat. The modified one lets it rest on the top as I think it was intended to function.
