Merc 123 replacement key
thingiverse
I created a universal replacement ignition key mechanism for my old Mercedes W123 after its original one broke down. To use this handy tool, you'll first need to remove the inside mechanism and tumbler assembly from your key switch. Additionally, take out the part that disengages the steering lock. This new 'key' is specially designed to disengage the steering lock as you insert it, push it in, and turn until it clicks into place at the far end where it activates the electrical switch. Be careful when using this key, though - the spring for the start function can be quite stiff and might break off the little lug at the end of the tool if you're not gentle. I recommend installing a push button or toggle switch for the starter to avoid any potential damage. As an added safety precaution, I've rigged up a hidden switch under my dash that I operate with my foot when needed. Keep in mind that this setup makes your car relatively easy to hotwire - so if you're worried about theft, consider adding a concealed switch for the fuel pump or ignition coil as an extra layer of security.
