Mephistopheles Tumbler (#4A-G-0131)

The tumbler on display boasts a distinctive pressed design known as Mephistopheles (4A-G-0131; measuring 3.4 inches in height). Drinking vessels bearing this pattern were produced in Germany and the United States during the late nineteenth century. This particular example was unearthed from a privy shaft situated at 1018 Palmer Street, where family members of the Cramp and Bumm families once resided.
