Mounting is optional, you can leave the extruder intact! To level, just slide the indicator in as needed. This attachment screws to the underside of the aluminum extruder frame's front section. It works best with Harbor Freight's standard dial indicator http://www.harborfreight.com/1-inch-travel-machinists-dial-indicator-623.html , but other types might also work. There's a hole in the design for securing a set screw to the indicator shaft, although I never had to use it myself.
