Secure your filament feed tube for consistent feed speed and resistance with this design. It ensures happier prints by preventing the feed from springing back or rolling up/out when removing filament. You can also make three nubs on the device to switch between three spools of filaments easily during printing without having to pass the filament through the holes in the spool. The required 1/4 OD vinyl tube is available at any hardware store for about $0.13 per foot, and a two-foot length should be perfect. This design works best with standard MM1.5+ spool mounts. Although there's some drag through the tube, it has not caused any feed issues. If your extruder is not happy already, consider using low friction tubing or omitting the tubing altogether. Even without the tube, this design prevents unspooling on the spool when loose by reversing the direction of roll and coming down from the top, which works fine with ABS but may require angling for PLA.
