MendelMax, a 3D Printer designed by Maxbots, is an updated RepRap model. It uses aluminum extrusions instead of threaded rods for structural elements, providing increased rigidity at minimal additional cost (approximately $50 more than a standard Prusa when sourced from recommended suppliers). The required extrusions are globally available. MendelMax offers greater rigidity, faster assembly (around 4 hours), larger build volume (215x235x190mm at standard dimensions), and ease of hacking compared to predecessors. MendelMax full kits and hardware-only kits are now available from Maxbots. Instructions and parts lists can be found on the MendelMax website, while assembly instructions for standard Prusa parts remain applicable. An STP file is also available, along with FreeCAD scripting tutorials. Note that SCAD parts are untested and may require tweaking. Several updates have been made, including new Y motor mount and Y Idler mount designs for improved robustness. The "Lower Vertex Cupcake" part is a replacement for the standard Lower Vertex, designed for small-format printers like the Cupcake. Only one of these parts needs to be printed. New Lower Vertex pieces have also been uploaded for easier printing and assembly but should not be used as support structures. Please avoid standing on the printer due to the new parts' reduced strength compared to the original ones.
