MendelMax Minimal Y Rod Mount V2 (Parametric)

thingiverse

This is a customizable Y rod mount for MendelMax-type 3D printers, featuring replacement parts for both standard 8mm and larger 10mm rods. Compared to stock parts, this design offers several advantages, including clamping rods to aluminum extrusions for enhanced level travel and reduced Y carriage elevation, leading to a lighter overall weight. The mount consists of just four small parts, using minimal plastic. An improved version over the previous minimal mount, it features fewer parts, making assembly and printing easier. It also utilizes M5x20 socket head screws, already recommended for MendelMax builds, with socket heads designed for easy tightening from the side with pliers. To use with an 8mm rod, simply change m5_length to 16. For a 10mm Y-rod, alter rod_diameter and print. The mount is reinforced for durability, with ABS or Polycarbonate recommended. It's released under CC-BY-NC-SA-3.0 by Thomas Fulenwider (a.k.a. cobra18t). To assemble, simply print four pieces and use 2 T-nuts or thin M5 nuts on the underside of each aluminum extrusion. Slide each piece onto the Y-rod, then mount with two M5x20 socket head screws. Hand-tighten initially, followed by final tightening using pliers on the socket head's knurled perimeter for extra grip. The design utilizes OpenSCAD configuration files from Prusa's i3 project, found at github.com/josefprusa/Prusa3.
