I'm excited to share my simple yet effective Filament Spool Holder project with you. I've always wanted to design a "sit on top" system that snugly fits the 2020 Aluminium Extrusion, and I finally have a working prototype to show for it. This design combines several parts sourced from other creators here on Thingiverse. Below, I'll outline the components required for this build. Parts Required -------------------------------- You'll need the following components to bring my design to life: * 2 x Cone Spool Bearing Supports: Find them at [www.thingiverse.com/thing:144353](http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:144353) * 2 x Support Arms: Check out these ones at [www.thingiverse.com/thing:165150](http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:165150) * 2 x Bearing spacers (8mm inner, 11.6mm outer): You can find them or resize the existing parts to match the bearing * 2 x Insert Collars for the Support Arms (to fit 8mm rod perfectly - 8mm inner, 13mm outer) Hardware Needed ---------------- To assemble everything, you'll require: * 1 x 300mm threaded 8mm Rod: Available at Screwfix in the UK * 2 x M8 / 8mm Wingnuts * 4 x 8mm large-ish flat washers Let's Get Started ----------------- Follow these steps to build your Filament Spool Holder: 1. Insert the "collarinsert.stl" file onto the outside of each Support Arm to support the 8mm rod. 2. I encountered an issue with one filament spool, whose inner hole diameter was smaller than the 608_hub_2. To fix this, I used a forstner drillbit on a bench drill to enlarge the holes either side. Important Note ----------------- To ensure smooth rotation of the Hub, I recommend drilling out the hubs and spacers with an 8mm drill bit. This will make it easy to attach them to the threaded rod without stripping any screws. With these simple steps, you'll have a functional Filament Spool Holder that'll keep your workspace organized and tidy!
