Mendel X Y axis accuracy doubling mod.

Mendel X Y axis accuracy doubling mod.

thingiverse

This revised text details a mod that enhances accuracy on Reprap Mendel by creating a double pulley system. The X-axis exhibits reduced lash, while movement is sharper. The mod also enables machines to maintain their previous speeds. A video demonstration can be found here. The modifications require 12 M4 by 20mm countersunk bolts, M4 studding, 4 624ZZ bearings, longer M4 bolts, M4 standard and lock knuts, M4 washers, and a 5m-long T5 belting. Open T5 belting can be obtained from this website. The bearing installation process involves M4 washers on either side of the bolt, with clamping to follow. Be mindful not to tighten the Y-axis bearing clamp until it is bolted down. The Y-axis baring bracket contains 4 M3 knuts captured within. The X-axis belt clamps necessitate 85mm-long M4 studs, which screw into captured knuts adjacent to z-screw knuts without over-tightening. Two M4 knuts should be locked when winding. Belts pass through the blocks freely in this assembly, which comprises 6 standard M4 knuts on each side. Y and X steps per mm must be exactly doubled in the firmware post-installation for optimal performance.
