Mendel X-Axis Belt Modification
thingiverse
Revamping my Mendel X-axis, I addressed belt slackness and construction complexity. My redesign allows for shorter belts and compatibility with Prusa Mendel carriages. An adapter bracket is included for use with original Mendel X-Carriage, but idler bearing and pulley spacing is crucial to maintain parallel belt alignment. A second idler bearing bracket option reduces sharp belt angles around the pulley, possibly decreasing wear. Circular holes in motor & idler2 brackets enable ventilation for PLA parts, preventing overheating. Updated files address initial prototype weaknesses and improve printability. The idler allows easy belt fitting with tension adjustment via bearing retraction. By adopting this design instead of an alternative X-motor bracket, you save on bearings, bolts, nuts, and washers while requiring additional components. If using the original x-carriage adapter, replace some parts with specified alternatives for optimal performance.
