Mendel Snap-in Filament Spool Holder
thingiverse
I discovered Think_3D's Yet Another Dispenser for Filament Spools and appreciated the SIMPLE SPOOL HOLDER FOR MENDEL, but identified some issues. The low and rear position of the spool caused the filament to rub against the threaded bar, so I sought alternatives. The Mendel Filament Guide, an ancestor design, addressed this by allowing leftover round bar usage as a guide. However, one Thingiverse user noted it required round bar not readily available. My snap-in design proved successful and inspired by BackyardWorkshop's Over The Top Spool Holder V2, I improved upon the concept. By modifying my Mendel Filament Guide, I positioned the spool above and closer to avoid filament rubbing against the threaded bar. The holder snaps onto the top frame vertices of the Mendel by sliding a long hook on the front threaded bar and pressing the rod holder onto the back one. To remove, grab the entire spool holder low and pull up and back. Wheels with 608 bearings are mounted on each side of a standard filament spool, and a 24cm threaded rod is inserted through the bearings with appropriate washers and nuts to secure them. Finally, center the threaded bar onto the Mendel's snap-in filament spool holders and tighten the nuts accordingly.
