In 1965, work on the MEMZ-968 power unit of its own making came to a close, boasting a capacity of 40 hp. This innovative power unit received top honors at the VDNKh of the USSR in 1966, winning the prestigious 1st degree diploma. Later that year, engineers got down to business, crafting a powerful new model - MEMZ-969B - based on the original MEMZ-968 with its impressive 40 hp rating. By 1967, the construction team was working around the clock on a brand-new facility within the plant's complex, dubbed "site A" and designed specifically for the mass production of MEMZ-968 power units. Fast-forward to 1971 and the production line had officially shifted into high gear, relocating from site 'A' to its new home in area 'B'. As the days ticked by, one milestone after another fell into place: on September 24, 1974, a millionth power unit rolled off the assembly line, marking a major achievement. This success story culminated on October 28, 1974, when the MEMZ-968 earned its place among the crème de la crème of Russian industry by being awarded the coveted State Quality Sign.
