This tribute was unveiled on September 14th, 1974. It was crafted by sculptors Emil Vitroel and Ion Munteanu, along with architect Cristea Milos. This monument honors the courageous warriors from the renowned Paulis Division. In a series of intense battles during September 1944, this division fiercely defended the strategic Mures pass. The impressive feat is attributed to the bravery of approximately 2,800 Romanian soldiers who successfully repelled an onslaught by over 20,000 German and Hungarian troops. The casualties were staggering, with 380 Romanians giving their lives, while inflicting a crushing defeat on more than 3,000 enemy forces. Despite being outnumbered, the Romanians emerged victorious, earning recognition in a day order no. 15 issued on November 14th, 1944 by the Minister of War. Two massive blades form the monument, symbolizing the unwavering spirit of Victory and Courage. In front of this striking tribute stands a bronze statue of a Romanian soldier. On a plate, an inscription in Romanian proudly declares: "To the heroes of Paulis, 1944."
