St Peter's churchyard, Invergowrie, near Dundee is home to an impressive array of carpenters' tools and a winged cherub that symbolize the inevitability of mortality. Inscription: This stone was erected by James Witton, a skilled wright from Nin walls in memory of his beloved wife Elisabeth Nichol who passed away on August 1756 at just 36 years young. Tragically, four of their children also succumbed to death. James Whitton's family tree includes his sons John and James Whitton as well as daughters Elisabeth and Margaret Whitton. 18 Revised 64 By Isabella & Margaret Mathew, the granddaughters of the aforementioned James Whitton, who took it upon themselves to revise this inscription in 1871. Margaret Matthew left this world on July 10th, 1871 at the ripe age of 65 years. Her sister Isabella Matthew followed suit two years later, passing away on August 11th, 1875 at a respectable 73 years young. Alexander Prain's time on earth came to an end on September 17th, 1879 in his 80th year. West Side 1762 A devoted child, wife and mother, Elisabeth Nichol's life was a true wonder. Her kindness and generosity have left an indelible mark on the world, ensuring her good name will endure even beyond the decay of her mortal body. Alexander Matthew Wilkie's life was cut tragically short when he passed away on September 14th, 1879 at just 23 years young.
