Commissioned in 1703 by the Royal Buildings, this magnificent marble sculpture was installed near the royal pavilion of the Chateau de Marly in 1706, perfectly framing the breathtaking cascade of its river. A life-sized masterpiece by Nicolas Coustou (Lyon, 1658 - Paris, 1733), it portrays Meleager, a hero from Greek mythology who is revered for his bravery and strength. Born in Calydon, Greece, Meleager was already famous for hosting the legendary Calydonian boar hunt, an epic adventure immortalized by Homer's timeless poetry.
