The Nikon D5500 captures the intricate details of Miegle 22, an architectural fragment featuring a merman accompanied by two clawed creatures at the Meigle Sculptured Stone Museum in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. One of 27 carved Pictish stones discovered in the churchyard of Meigle village, Miegle 22 is sculpted from local old red sandstone and framed within a moulded border that suggests it once adorned a decorative string-course in a church dating back to around 9th-10th centuries AD. The merman's legs twist together, ending in fish-like tails that also imply the possibility of a siren. In contrast, Plate CXXXII from The Sculptured Stones of Scotland vol. 1 (1856) depicts Miegle 22 with a blank face, yet my model reveals faint details of eyes and a nose.
