Mehen stands out as the only multi-player ancient Egyptian board game that has survived the test of time, while others like Senet, Aseb, Hounds & Jackals, etc., are all two-player games with a rich history. Played by the ancient Egyptians until around 1000BC, Mehen, also known as the Game of the Snake, remains an enigmatic and fascinating piece of their cultural heritage. In the early 20th century, anthropologists, explorers, and adventurers stumbled upon a spiral-tracked game being played by the Baggara Arabs of Sudan, which they called "The Hyena Game." Astonishingly, in every essential detail, this "Hyena Game" appears to have been an exact replica of the ancient Egyptian Mehen.
