The Doric pillar is a fundamental element of ancient Greek architecture, characterized by its simplicity and strength. It features a fluted shaft, typically unadorned except for a capital at the top and a base at the bottom. The columns are usually composed of three parts: the entasis or slight convexity in the middle, which creates a subtle curve; the epistyle, or the horizontal beam above the capital; and the stylobate, or the platform on which the column rests.
