Mega Delta 405x305
thingiverse
This is my latest creation. I built the MegaTronXY X1 with a 440x440x300 print area, but it was too slow. The prints were great, but it took too long to print my Comic-Con items. Then I built a 220x525 Delta, and that printer printed better than my factory-purchased Kossel from eBay. This printer had a full 220 print bed, but it was too small to print my items. Now I have my latest Delta creation. It's the same parts as my 220x525 Delta but with a larger print area. The print area is 405x305, and the height remains the same as the 220x525 printer. However, this new printer has a smaller print height. It stands at only three feet tall and two feet wide. But this new printer allows me to print my Comic-Con items in one print. This new printer uses the same parts as my Delta 220x525 but with a few extra items to keep the motors cooler since it will be printing for a longer period. Since it is wider, it moves side to side, so I had to reinforce it with cross-members. This newer printer still uses 3/4-inch square aluminum tubing with 3/4x 4-foot aluminum strips to keep the printer stable. It also uses 3/4-inch self-drilling screws to screw it together. You will also need 24 M3x10 and 12 M3x16. The idea behind this larger Delta was to be able to print parts faster than my MegaTronXY X1 printer. Don't get me wrong, the MegaTronXY X1 printed great parts, but it took longer to print them. I ran a time test using my Mega Delta and the MegaTronXY X1, printing identical parts. My Mega Delta only took six hours to print one of my base corners, while the MegaTronXY X1 took 18 hours. Same infill, same everything, but the MegaTronXY X1 was too slow. So I decided to see if I could build a Delta with the same footprint as my MegaTronXY X1, and this is what I came up with. I'll be using the same firmware I used on my Mega Delta just going to change the dimensions. Credit goes to the following people for their parts that I used on all my builds: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:663101, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:27177, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:39662, and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:154832. 7-6-2017: I was having some problems with no filament coming out of the extruder. I fixed this by cleaning out the hotend and adjusting the temperature. 7-30-2017: I've updated my Heat Bed. I am only using a 5mm glass bed with heating pad attached to it. I've uploaded new clips just for the Bed. I am able to have the new improved Heat Bed level without all the extra adding or subtracting of the endstop. 8/23/2017: Final Input. As of today, the Mega EX Delta prints great. However, if you print large items, they are 1-1.5mm smaller, and when you print small items, they are .5 or less larger than your actual item. This comes in handy for shrinkage. 10-2-2017: as of today I have fixed the printing of larger items printing smaller then original size. I will upload the updated specs along with the new and improved longer arms. 10-3-2017: I've uploaded the new firmware with the updated Rod length along with a fine tune delta radius and smooth rod figures, hope this helps.
