Yes, she's a real ugly one - but true to the myth, she turned out to be: Medusa was one of the three Gorgons, daughters of Phorcys and Ceto, sisters of the Graeae, Echidna, and Ladon – all terrifying creatures. A stunning mortal, Medusa stood out in her family until she got into trouble with Athena, either because of her arrogance or because of a doomed romance with Poseidon. Transformed into a ruthless monster with snakes for hair, she was killed by Perseus, who then used her still powerful head as a weapon before giving it to Athena.
