Medieval Sword
sketchfab
I'm about to attempt a rather absurd task - I'll take this medieval sword and see if I can turn it into something entirely different using Blender. The first thing I need to do is import my sword model into Blender, which should only be a matter of clicking on the "Import" button at the top of the screen. As soon as the sword appears in the 3D view, I'll select all its edges and faces with Ctrl+A, then I'll extrude each edge by about half an inch. This will give me some extra surface area to work with. Now, let's say I want to turn this sword into a medieval-style lantern. First, I need to create a new mesh that will serve as the base of my lantern. To do this, I'll select all the faces of the original sword and use Ctrl+Shift+E to extrude them outward. This will give me a hollow cylinder that I can then fill with some kind of material. Next up, I need to add some details to make this lantern look like it's actually been used for lighting. I'll start by creating a new mesh that resembles a candle flame - just a simple cylinder with a few vertices tweaked to give it a more organic shape. Now that I have my candle flame mesh, I can parent it to the center of the lantern using Ctrl+P. This will allow me to move and rotate the flame independently of the rest of the lantern. To finish things off, I'll add some subtle texture mapping to give the lantern a slightly worn look - just a few stripes of grime here and there. And that's it! With a bit of patience and some clever use of Blender's tools, I've managed to turn this medieval sword into a rather charming lantern. Who knows what other strange transformations I could attempt with Blender?
