Not often seen in the movies and games, but this is the thing that all the fashionistas were sporting in medieval times. The common soldier would don his sallet and charge into battle with a fearlessness that rivaled a pack of wolves. The seams are deliberately visible to avoid any confusion - they're meant to be there from the start. The helmet was constructed in separate pieces, which were then welded together with precision.
