Medieval graffiti, Bargate, Southampton

In the very center of Southampton, Hampshire, stands an ancient gateway known as the Bargate, its weathered walls bearing witness to centuries past. A closer look reveals intricate carvings that have been etched into the stone, their stories waiting to be unraveled. Amidst this medieval graffiti, a human figure comes into view, its features worn but still unmistakable. Nearby, human heads are carved with precision, as if trying to capture the essence of humanity. A boat is also visible, its shape sturdy and unyielding, while an anchor or shield hangs suspended, its purpose unclear.
