Skills during this lockdown.A small story behind this medicine box.I have been in home from march 2020 when the lockdown started in India. While i am in home i have noticed my mom forgetting to take tablets. I wanted to find a solution for the same. I didn't have any electronics boards like Arduino at home. My electronics were in Hyderabad (Where i worked). I had to find a solution with whatever things i had access to. I sat at my laptop and thought for a while. I wanted something that can associate time with medicine. After few minutes of thought I planned to use Alarm. I have put the alarm as heart of the system, made a box around it. Then i thought about the mechanism to stop the alarm when it rings and that opens the door. Initially it was fine but then i also wanted the mechanism to set the alarm back when the door is closed. I figured out a simple mechanism for the same, i visualised the whole thing and made a functional design using FUSION 360. This is my rudimentary solution to mom, this actually works pretty fine. As you might have seen how it works, the alarm is at some time. When the alarm is heard the lever is pressed which inturn turns off the alarm and opens the door. The tablets should be taken, then as soon as the door is closed the alarm is reactivated. I will make another advanced box with electronics that will also keep track all the medicines. I named this project medicine box, i will continue to enhance the box to suit my mom's need. While making this design i kept it as simple as possible to manufacture as well as there were not many tools at home. I had a hammer, screw driver and a saw blade. A carpenter near by my home had some old plywood pieces lying around. I used his hand saw to cut small pieces of the plywood as per dimensions. Bought the pieces home, i used fevicol wood adhesive and some nails to put the box together. I used a small hinge for the door to pivot at that edge. I cut the lever arm to shape, used kitchen knife to cut the lever arm. Used sand papers of 60 grain to sand the lever arm and also shape it. I used old alarm lying in home.All this process took me about 4 hours with intervals in between. It worked out pretty much as planned. My mom started to use this for 4 weeks now without any problem. I just wanted to post this to tell that there are many problems around us which can be solved by paying attention to them.
