Mechanical Ventilator
grabcad
The ventilator known as Freebreath is a mechanical device being developed to help meet the high demand for ventilators triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic through its ability to be largely manufactured using additive manufacturing techniques, thereby overcoming potential shortages of components in industry. It consists of an electronic control system designed to supply an adjustable mixture of air and oxygen to the lungs through the pumping action of a cylinder-piston mechanism. Exhaled fluids are directed to a PEEP valve and then to a filter system, engineered to prevent contamination of healthcare workers' equipment. Further details about the Freebreath project can be found in the document titled freebreath (4).pdf. The project remains under development, with updates to its CAD design pending. A schedule outlining the project's timeline is available for review in the file freebreath-overview (1).pdf.
